Style Forum is filled with pictures of people wearing clothes. Where do those clothes go when we're not wearing them? Over the years, I've caught some glimpses of various closets and I've always wanted to see more. If you're proud of your set up and want to share or want input to make your closet look better, post pictures here.

Some stock photograph. Mine looks nothing like any of these.

We live in the city and my wife got the bulk of the closet space so my closet transitions by season. Spring/summer tailoring and black tie rigs are in dust bags in the guest room closet.

Knits live in various cubbies above and below the hanging space and switch between heavy knits F/W and golf shirts/shorts for the summer.

I got about 1/3 of the dresser for t shirts, socks and underwear

I got the coat closet in the mudroom for outerwear and shoes which is much messier since I’m the only one who ever sees it.

great idea for a thread.
Don't know if it has been discussed before this thread.

Take half an hour and rearrange these jackets from lightest to darkest, left to right. You will get a different perspective of your wardrobe. See you have more dark jackets to the left in your closet.
Post a picture if you do it so we can learn something

Great thread idea. My closet is chaos, so I don't know if I'll share it, but will enjoy seeing others.

Some of you are afraid to share the mess. I’ll volunteer and show you mine. Don’t judge me. :hide:

New York City apartment and my wife has more clothes than me. I use to send seasonal clothes to a storage space, but stopped after the pandemic. I should start again.

As you can see, it’s packed pretty tightly. I organize it maybe once or twice a year. It’s been a while since I’ve done that.

1) IKEA pax wardrobe.

Trousers on the bottom, jackets in the middle, sweaters up top.

2) Bedroom closet. Sliding doors.

Shoes on the bottom. Ties, vests, sport coats/suits, outerwear in the middle. Shirts, heavy sweaters, random stuff up top.

I have a very odd shaped walk in (the main return air vent goes through my closet, so there's a large section that is unusable due to that)

That said.... I am getting inserts from here:

Will install in January. I'll swing back here afterwards to post some pictures.

My contribution to this thread haha. Still not sure if this is the ideal tie storage, but, I’m pleased with it & I wasn’t happy with sacrificing closet space for neckties.

out of curiosity, why do you guys store your shoes in the closet? To me, it’s not practical (I don’t wear shoes inside my apartment). I use my closet by the front for outerwear & out of season clothing.

Doesn’t seem ideal to me. Looks like it would be difficult to remove a single tie and some ties would get lost/hidden in the mix.

I actually had a similar thought regarding removing items. How do you navigate seeing options and grabbing just one with your shirt/knit shelf up top in yours? I stack mine about 5 high in cubbies and feel like I need to refold things half the time I grab one which is annoying and honestly leads to me grabbing whatever is on top more often than something down lower.

The knits are visible and fairly distinct. I know which one I want to grab and can find it easily.

The shirts are another story. I have 7 or 8 blue OCBD. It is not easy finding the right one sometimes. It ends up being a big game of jenga. Take one out, investigate, then back on top. Not ideal, but I have over 100 shirts and no space to hang them all. They were all organized by color and fabric weight at one point, then life… I also have my seasonal shirts mixed in. I should really put them aside.
