I bought a pair of Ola and RRDS three years ago, didn't have a problem with them. Bought a slim jim dry japan three months ago and the waist button tore through the waistband in a few weeks... I don't know what to think. YMMV. !luc
Most Nudie quality gripes seem to come up w/r/t/ Slim Jims, which I think is probably due to the fact that people tend to buy them for a different look than Ralfs or Stevens. A lot of people size down a lot on them, to wear them skinny and get good fades, which is naturally going to wear them down more than a looser fit. Any mainstream dry denim that's worn tight, and then get the hell beat out out of them without ever having the restorative treatment of a wash & tumble is bound to break-down as the creases and stress points undergo a whole lot of abuse. hence all the crotch blow-outs: drum-taut jeans + slouching so that the crotch is halfway down your thighs when you walk = disaster waiting to happen.
I think I might very well be the only person in Baltimore who owns a pair of Nudies since no stores sell them here. The first time I ever saw them on another person (outside of Denimbar) was when the Kaiser Chiefs came to town, we were shooting a game of pool backstage talking about how touring does such an awesome job at breaking in raw black thin flynns (and they did look great, btw). If you don't like the back pocket stitching you can always rip some/all of it out. I think LA Guy or Sauce did this and it looked pretty nice. As far as quality goes - I'm on my 8th month of wear on my Slim Jims and that includes many many miles worth of intense hiking and camping in NorCal. So far there have been no rips or blowouts.
