Maybe it's the use of flash, but it looks like you used one of those "quick shine" sponges on them which isn't a good luck. But, you've also got some harsh lighting due to the flash use.

I never used anything besides polish and a buffer.

The flash makes it a bit difficult to say for sure, but I’d consider using some cream polish with pigment to even out the coloring of the leather. Also, I suggest perhaps using a horsehair brush to get a bit more of an even, uniform shine.

You may have applied an excessive amount of wax, though it looks maybe like cream. Buff them more, regardless.
