How would you describe this coat?

Hi, all.

Can the sartorial experts please describe the construction of the shoulders for me? It looks like they are slightly roped (?), and I was wondering how you'd describe the amount of padding/batting you see and the roundness/naturalness of the shoulder.

Also, is there a certain face/neck type that this coat would not look good on?

Thank you!

I think that's about it - natural shoulder with slight roping.

Agreed - lightly padded shoulder with roping of the shoulder. Would look fine on most anyone but probably best for slimmer to average men (only sizes offered are 40 and 42 so you should be OK).

The sleeves look a little short for the model in the picture.

Agreed. I would get my sleeves a tiny bit longer.

Also, any special comments about the collar in back? It seems it is constructed so it sits a little bit higher in the back of the neck than this other winter topcoat I own. I have a long neck, so this would be a good think. Does anyone else think the collar sits a bit higher than many other coats, or is that not correct?

Thanks again.

It says it has "boning." Does this mean it has corset-like ribs to accentuate the waist suppression?

If so, that is srsly ****.

Hi, a tailor.

Can you please explain the difference in effect?

I'm pretty sure he's making a distinction of semantics. I.e., the shoulders of a suit (or overcoat) are not what is roped, ever. It is the sleeve head that is roped.

And, to the O.P., usually shoulders in overcoats (like the covert to which you have linked) are natural, as you would not want more padding than what is in a jacket's shoulders.
