How versatile a suit is gray glenplaid?

Currently my only suit is a solid navy winter weight. I'm looking into getting a glenplaid (medium gray) next, mostly because I love the pattern. Is this for any reason an unwise choice for a second suit?

great pattern. if you're wearing a suit frequently, i would get it as a 4th or 5th suit, rather than a 2nd, unless it is a very subtle glen plaid. first 3 or 4 suits should be rather non-descript, especially if you wear suits frequently.

if you wear a suit once or twice a month, go ahead.

ah, you're buying one of those HickeyStyle suits. cool. I'd be very interested to hear your thoughts on it after getting it. Some pics of you wearing it would be even more boss.

The one you picked looks good. I agree that the glenplaid would have been my first choice as well from their selection.

I like that kind of stripe. I have a Brioni with a similar stripe and people often say the nicest things about it.

Yeah I'll let you know. Perhaps it's better that I didn't get the GP, since upon closer inspection I notice that there's pink in the pattern. That would be excellent for a casual suit, but I'm not really a casual suit person.

I agree and would even push back a GP to the 6th or 7th suit acquisition. Though it would be one of my first sportcoat choices.

probably true, but i didn't want to scare the guy off ever buying the glen plaid.

i'm still looking for one, as it is. haven't found one that (1) i like, (2) fits me, and (3) is within my price range.

I have black and white plaids in 14 oz. and 11 oz. flannel and a tan in ten ounce worsted.

On the scale of formal to weekend suits, they fall somewhere between Friday and Saturday. Not as casual as linen and tweed but less formal than plain flannels.

There's always room for a gray GP suit. Not as a first, but as a second or third suit, possibly, if the first suit is versatile enough for most occasions.

I think in part it depends on the contrast between the pattern and the field. The less bold the pattern contrast the more versatile/formal it is. The one at HickeyStyle seems fairly versatile, at least the pattern. I couldn't comment on the cut.
