How useful is a solid brown flannel sport coat?

I have very bland taste and like the jacket.

I'd agree - the jacket looks very nice.

I think the jacket looks great too. No doubt about that in my mind.

Fine with jeans but really not with grey flannels.

This, however, is why I'm hesitant. I'm thinking that flannel on flannel would lack the contrasting textures that make a solid sportcoat / solid trousers look work properly. edmorel made an excellent post on the topic here - http://www.styleforum.net/t/308954/on-solid-and-solid-like-jackets-shirts-ties

As good as it may be, in my eyes a not-too-rustic tweed sc in the same color would be much more versatile.

I also think that tweed would probably be a better choice but I'm willing to be convinced otherwise.

I like it and I find that more bland sport coats can be worn more often.

I think a medium brown Donegal would work well here. Semi solid appearance with some texture.

Aside from texture I'd also be mindful of how different shades of brown cooperate with your complexion. I've seen many instances were one's skin tone is either washed out too much or stands in too deep of a contrast to the SC. In both instances you come away looking quite peculiar. It might just be an issue for me, but depending on the time of year I cannot wear certain shades of brown at all.

That jacket looks awesome with jeans (or are those navy flannels?) but I'm not so sure about the grey trousers.

+1. I really like the look with dark denim more than the one with grey.
