How trustworthy is Nordstrom’s description for Ted Baker suits?

I’ve been looking for a nice suit for a while now. It’s really hard to find the shade of Navy Blue that I want. I am also really new to this whole men’s fashion thing as I previously couldn’t afford to even buy a $100 suit (college student).

Anyways I came across a suit that finally fits me well, with the navy blue that I want. Unfortunately, it’s not Canali, or E Zegna, or Paul Smith or any of that that is super good quality, it’s Ted Baker.

That’s the link for it. Nordstrom say they are half canvassed. I have a discount code from them from an order they screwed up for me in the past, I also have $200 gift card which will make the total about $400 with tax. However, the forum seems to believe that all Ted Baker is fused? I’d rather not buy it if it’s fused.

If anyone has any info on this particular suit, please let me know. I searched up Jay Trim Fit Ted Baker on Nordstrom and everything else is under this particular’s suit price and no other ones say half-canvassed except for this one. I just want to make sure it’s actually half-canvassed before I buy it.

Oh I also don’t wear a suit to work except in certain situation, but have a lot of events coming up that requires it (weddings, banquets, galas). But I can’t afford anything more than $400 with tax included.

Please any help/alternative would be appreciated. My shopping options are limited to Nordstrom, Neiman and Bloomies. I need a 40S and absolutely cannot use regular (I’m 5 foot 5).

Thank you! Sorry for the long post!

The fact that it's made in Canada, and the only factory that I know of in Canada being Samuelsohn, I would not be surprised if half-canvassed. Only way to know is to examine it in person (which also would be ideal..a fusible suit that fits in the chest/shoulders well is better than a full-canvas that doesn't).

The Ted Baker suits I saw at Nordstrom rack were fused

Coppley and Jack Victor, too, are Canadian.

Don’t worry about half canvases, fused or other details like that. You’re on a budget. Your overriding concern should be the fit and the overall versatility of the garment.

Too many people obsess over canvassing to the exclusion of more important attributes.

The only Ted Baker clothing I own are their wool slacks, from Nordstrom, and I’m quite happy with them. I can’t say anything for their suits.

I would be shocked if Samuelsohn makes Ted Baker suits. No, definitely other large suit manufacturers in Canada e.g. Coppley, Peerless (very large), Jack Victor, Paragon, S. Cohen for example.

I used to work at Nordstrom, and IIRC, the Ted Baker line they carry (the Endurance line) is made by Jack Victor. Reputable factory based in Montreal. As of 3 years ago, the Endurance line was all half-canvas.

dont worry about that, I echo the sentiment of other posters, #1 criteria is fit. If you have a gift card and other stuff that makes it affordable for you - go for it.

Amicus, that is consistent with what I recall hearing from a sales associate in a Canadian store roughly a year ago. OP, if you like the cut of the suit and it's appropriate for your upcoming events, it's probably a fine deal with the gift card.

Am I missing something ? Is there a Nordstrom nearby to try it on?
Or is you size not in stock locally?
