How to wear a sweater vest?

This is my first post here and I'd really appreciate any advice.
I'm not sure what's the best way to wear a sweater vest, can I wear it with a t-shirt?
I think the picture looks good but I pretty mich never saw any pictures of a sweater vest combined with a t-shirt on the internet?

Drake's went heavy into sweater vests this past season. Check out how they're wearing them in the lookbook.

Some themes:
1. Contrasting color
2. Under a sports jacket
3. Unbutton the bottom

I'd think it goes much better with a button up underneath to show contrast. Roll up the sleeves when jacket comes off.
