How to tell if you can wear shoes barefoot.

It's pretty obvious if they are leather loafers that you can wear them barefoot, but I have a decent amount of boat shoes and some have leather sides but the bottom is any mix of cloth mesh, Styrofoam looking substance for cushioning, etc. Will they be ruined if wore barefoot?

Boat shoes are meant to be worn barefoot.
