How to tell if it's selvage?

I'm pretty new to premium jeans. I just wanted to know how to tell if jeans are selvage by looking at them. If anyone could post pictures and point out what to look for that would help a lot.

Now if someone could tell me what I'm looking at that's different from non-selvage...

Non-selvedge won't have the white/red striping, and will instead have threads looping over the ends of the fabric. Imagine threads looping from where the blue meets the white going over the white-red-white and back behind. Only there won't be any red/white necessarily...

That sounded really difficult. Just grab any normal pair of jeans you have, cuff them, and look at how it is different from the picture.

Better yet, grab just about any tshirt you have and look at a seam from the inside. You should see complex looped stitching covering the edges of the fabric at the seams. If the same sort of stitching is covering the edges of the denim on the outseam, it isn't selvage.

take any pair of old jeans, most likely they will not be selvedge, but stitched up with thread.
