How to store leather shoes in a very humid place?

I would like to store some winter shoes, and keep them away from the excessive moisture that I live with. Last year I saw some kind of fungus growing on the shoes. They were not covered or protected, they were just in a corner, on the floor. Is it okay to store them in plastic garbage bags? How can I make sure they don´t get fungus on them? It would be better to cover them with soft paper (toilet paper) and then put them in a garbage bag? Does a small Silica gel bag help? Is it true that leather shoes need to breathe? I mean is it bad to cover them with a garbage bag? I know there are fancy bags for shoes but I don´t have them with me at the moment. I´m looking for a cheap alternative that is effective.

pastic bags would not be a good idea.

try storing with some kind dessicant.

for the fungus keep them dry and bacteria free.

is the silica bag a dessicant?
so I just cover them with toilet paper?

You could probably put them in a bag of rice. But that would ruin a good bag of rice

Do not store them in plastic garbage bags. Do not wrap them in toilet paper.

Clean shoes. Insert cedar shoe trees. If in an area of high humidity, consider employing a dehumidifier and/or desiccant.

That's it.

Your closet should be dry enough already. Just put in shoe trees and then put them back in the box they came in. http://blog.leffot.com/2011/01/04/pr...ox-your-shoes/ Then put them in your closet. With all the cloth already hanging inside it should be dry enough.

cloth hanging in air doesn't make the air less humid.

If your shoes are not sweated in and still spontaneously mold up, you need to do something to prevent the mold.

1. dryer air
2. hotter air
3. UV or IR light (I forget which one kills fungus)
4. mold-killing treatment like alcohol rub

A large wooden box with heartfelt silicon beads. I think 65% would be a good a start, but maybe a tad high.. These beads are good because they maintain a a specified humidity as opposed to just suck out the moisture.
