I called J&M to clarify this issue, and both the rep. and her manager flatly told me that they "do not use CGL." I was not convinced, because I am almost positive J&M uses CGL on some of their models. However, it strikes me as odd that their top-shelf line--indeed, this model is the most expensive shoe they produce--uses CGL. Moreover, the description states that this shoe contains "the finest European calfskin available." It's also handmade in the USA.
Any opinions on this matter would be appreciated.
P.S. I also have a difficult time distinguishing CGL from high-quality leather just by the look. For instance, in Tarmac's picture above, I couldn't identify that leather as CGL. Could you?
Sorry, I never saw this bumped. I have seen and handled JM Georgetown IIs and I don't think they are CG. They are mid-quality calf leather. about the same as on AEs.
My old captoe pic is calf leather, I decided. Just not that great quality.
Utter and complete nonsense to say Church's uses corrected grain leather in any of their Custom Grade shoes, binder or otherwise. Binder merely describes the finish. That I have from the manager of the NYC store.
The manager of the NYC store? The manager at my local Jiffy Lube told me they do top quality repair work.
