How to Silence Your Heels.

Hello, I've got a pair of AE fifth avenues with the regular heels. My SWMBO complains that they're too loud on our hard wood floors. Also I work in a hospital and don't want to wake sleeping patients with loud clacking shoes. Any suggestions for making your shoes quiet? I know a topy on the sole can help, but what about heels? I was thinking maybe a rubber toplift like this http://www.cobblersupplies.com/servl...ber-Top/Detail I don't know much about toplifts though. Can that be applied DIY over the heel, or is that a replacement for a worn down heel? Will that be any less noisy. Thanks Also, I realize a rubber sole would be quiet, but I don't like the look of full rubber soled shoes.

i think heel taps [protectors] can be had in plastic or hard rubber.

I've actually got some plastic taps on them and they sound the same as they did originally. These heels are the "stacked" heel with leather, wood and finally rubber. Would they be much more quiet if I had the heels replaced with all rubber heels?

Working in a hospital?

Unfortunately, you might just have to go back to a pair of Croc.

you should cut off the top 1/2 inch and replace with rubber. don't try it yourself.

Could always get some crepe soled desert boots. Those won't make any noise at all.

Had the same problem. Even offered unsolicited advice to Allen Edmonds.

Have a cobbler replace the heel with a softer rubber.

I'm still trying to figure out what SWMBO means.

Sounds like I should get some softer rubber heels to replace the originals. Thanks for your replies.
