Inverallen
Inverallen has gone through every step of the StyleForum hype cycle. Two years ago nobody had heard of the brand – it’s hard to find outside of England and Japan – and super heavy-weight knits weren't particularly popular. A year ago, when we all realized we could place direct orders, the brand blew up, and everyone and their mom was ordering yarn samples and debating button styles. And then the hype escaped this thread, and Inverallen was drowning in specific orders and decided to do what happens when the scarce becomes popular: shut it down. Today, I hope that the brand can make a comeback. Their knits are, no matter what, awesome.
NBA
The NBA is back! Let’s all bowdown to LeBron James and celebrate his return to Cleveland, or something like that. In reality, when it comes to the NBA, StyleForum posters like to post about three things: the Knicks, the Lakers, and the validity of analytical statistics. Regardless, it’s a fun thread, and it’s home to some fascinating debate and some hilarious discussion. And hell, why go somewhere else to talk about basketball? We’re all in one.
Finding Deals
We all love a good deal, and part of tracking down the items you want at a price you can afford is recognizing who makes what. For all of the thousands of brands selling tailored clothing and high end shoes there are only a few dozen makers actually producing the clothing. When you’re able to recognize who makes what – through heel nail patterns, through internal production labeling, what have you – you’re able to identify what’s good and what’s not. For example, we all know that Aldens are great, and as such command some high prices on eBay, but what about Alden for Brooks Brothers? The shoes are just tagged with Brooks Brothers, so fewer people are bidding on them, and bam, you get a deal.
