How should one go about salvaging/refurbishing a leather belt where the shiny lacquer (?) coating has started to wear away? Thanks in advance for the advice.

Pictures? If the leather itself is in good shape you can try to do what people on here are doing to shoes - strip down the finish completely and then dye it.

Can get pics. Leather is in good shape. Primary issue is the finish, not the leather color. What can one use to restore the finish? And can you spot dye problem areas and refinish?

I would get a new belt & get one of higher quality and/or a different finish? Belts run as cheap as ties.

Don't. For something as banal as a belt just buy a new one.
