How to quieten noisy shoes

I was given a pair of brogues with a leather sole but fairly hard plastic heel. The problem is that every step in them makes a loud knock on anything harder than carpet, which seems to be mainly down to the heels than the sole (though they're hardly as quiet as rubber soles either).

What can I do to make them quiet? The obvious answer is to glue on some Topy heels and half-soles, but would such a thin sliver of rubber really make a big difference or just take the edge off the knocking sound as I walk on pavements and tiled floors? Is there any chance of them getting quieter as I wear in the heel a bit?

Let me know when you find an answer. It took me months to figure out how to embiggen these shoes. I'd love to quieten them as well.

Even Leather heels makes that noise. Having Vibram or Topy applied should damner the noies some.

But if you are opposed to the aesthetics of such then you can just goto a cobbler and have the heel replaced.

Sounds like you may have a plasric heel base.
Have your cobbler look at them.
If the bases are plastic have them changed to leather, then add a rubber top-lift.
