I was given a pair of brogues with a leather sole but fairly hard plastic heel. The problem is that every step in them makes a loud knock on anything harder than carpet, which seems to be mainly down to the heels than the sole (though they're hardly as quiet as rubber soles either).
What can I do to make them quiet? The obvious answer is to glue on some Topy heels and half-soles, but would such a thin sliver of rubber really make a big difference or just take the edge off the knocking sound as I walk on pavements and tiled floors? Is there any chance of them getting quieter as I wear in the heel a bit?
