I have a few casual washed button-down shirts from J. Crew but they seem to get extremely wrinked, nearly to the point of ruin whenever I wash them. Is there any way to prevent this?

I'm not sure what you mean by "to the point of ruin". Pics would be helpful.

I have the J.Crew shirts, too, and they do wrinkle quite a bit but no more so than my other OCBD shirts. However, I often wash and wear as is for a more casual look. They also iron well for a crisp look.

There's also the standard advice: get them into the drier straight-away, and hung up as soon as they're dry.

Also, if you can't be bothered to iron you can hang them up in your bathroom while you take a very hot shower and have a little steam help. I've used this for a few last minute formals, but ironing is by far a superior fix
