How to match your tie with your shirt and suit?

hey guys, i am new to this forum.

I was just wondering how would you match a tie to your dress shirt or suit? I mean i know the basics (e.g. no more than 2 checkered patterns, so if you have a checkered shirt and tie, your suit can't be checkered as well) and the width of your tie should match your shirt collar, but what do you guys think the dos and don't are?

I hold the tie up with the suit and shirt and decide if it looks good. It does or it doesn't.

Regarding pattern, I think what you'll find is that if the scale of the pattern on your tie is the same as the scale of the pattern on your shirt or jacket, it may not look as good as it would if the scale were different.

Generally speaking, aim to complement rather then match.

The safest way for me is tie darker than the shirt, and shirt lighter than the suit.
