how to match burgundy boots for every day wear

Hi,
First of all, I'd like to say I'm new to this place, and I wish I knew about this place sooner. The marketplace seems like a nice place to find some good deals, rather than me having to hunt salvo and ebay all the time. This is my first post!

Okay, here's my problem.
I recently bought a pair of gucci burgundy boots off of dsw.com. I thought they'd be a dark burgundy color as indicated by their website picture, but it looks a little bit lighter than what I thought.

I thought it would be almost a brown color. Now, I like the boots a lot, but I don't know how to wear the color. I'm a college student, and I thought I could match the boots with a pair of jeans, dress shirt, with sweater or something, but it looks a little off.

I guess what I'm looking for is ways/combinations to wear this investment to get my money's worth. I hear khaki's will work, but I only have a pair. Will certain colors of jeans work? What would be a good top to complement it?
The boots are mainly for when the snow hits and I don't wanna wear sneakers in the snow.


I hope to be more active in this community and learn a lot from everybody here.

Someone did a poll on brown vs. burgundy, and it was pretty separated on the subject of which was more versatile. I'm on the burgundy side, and I honestly think it looks good with almost every color, even black. I say check out the what are you wearing right now thread and see how people are wearing burgundy. Hopefully you'll see how versatile the color really is.

Pics of the boot perhaps? The more you go towards red on the spectrum, the harder it is to match

the boots are a tad bit lighter than what's shown in the picture.
I've been trying to look on the internet for examples but I can't seem to find any.
I also don't see many people trying to wear burgundy shoes.

Assuming the time to return has passed (if you're a student, you could have spent your $200 better than on a pair of red leather boots) then the above is a good idea.

In fact it may be better to use some black or dark brown polish to try to get the red towards a burgundy color. (If you use burgundy polish, you're going to end up with red-burgundy shoes, so you'll need something a couple shades darker.)

you know, that's what i was imagining when i saw it too.
I only spent 145 cause of coupons.

I do have some brown polish, but I've actually never done it properly. I feel like the stuff rubs off fairly quickly from the shoe.

Take them to a cobbler and let them dye them darker.

You could have them dyed, but if the leather is full grain, it should darken with some leather conditioner followed by dark shoe cream: dark browns or black.

+1. They look like they might be salvageable. But as someone who just graduated college, I do not know what I would have ever worn those...
