Weird question, but...

I have the spikey/messy hair style, I would say 1.5 to 2 inches on top and I get a #2 on the sides. I have pretty thick hair.

When I put shampoo in my hair in the shower, I can make it look exactly how I want. After I get out of the shower, not so much. I just wash my normally and look in my shower mirror and think wow, that looks cool haha. I have used the Got2b Glued gel, I have used CHI pliable polish, now I am just trying Garnier Fructise water-based shine wax.

I guess my thickness just takes over and ends up looking like a lifeless blob of hair. Sort of like afro-ish.

Any ideas?

Use a conditioner, and a non water-solluble wax, like Gatsby.

I've noticed the same thing....my hair looks much better wet....when I try to recreate the look with product, it's impossible.

+1, I often wet my hair to rinse it out, but don't actually wash it with shampoo. the natural grease/oil and dirt in your hair helps mold and shape it. Also, as suggested, use some sort of paste or molding cream and put it in your hair while it's damp. 1. Not gel that's wet and dries hard, and not mouse, etc. Paste (eg I use KMS) 2. Not dry hair, and not "throwing some water on it" wet either. Damp, ie after a shower, or wet your hair, mush with a towel, and do other stuff for 5-10 minutes, then it's soaked/damp.. then apply

Use a non-water based pomade.Try just using that first.
Another method is to put it on kind of heavy and then take a shower. It will only party wash out and leave your hair with that 'greasy clean " look.
One warning though, old school pomade works great but is, well, grease and all that implies.
