How to make arrangements with strangers on paying for a place together...

Hey. Sorry if the title didn't make sense. So a friend and I have met 3 strangers recently and we are all looking for a place together in NYC. We think we've found something, but now my friend is saying how do we know the other 3 guys are rent-reliable (we're all students after all).

Should we make some sort of contract with everyone's information (address, parent's address, SSN#, bank info) and all sign it? Or what?


Oh and a side question, someone suggested I give the tenant like $50 while we're thinking it over... would a $50 bribe do anything?
