I am getting married, and it is going to be on the beach in the fall.

I did not want to wear a james bond black tux on the beach, but also did not want to just wear some linen pants and a white shirt.

any ideas are greatly appreciated.

I am fun, and out there, so I love my duchamp socks, and I love my loud ties. I am just looking for some out of the box ideas that are good.

this seems to be the most common, which I am not against, but some color is always fun:

Although it's definitely casual, you could go for a light seersucker or pincord suit. Pair that with a light colored shirt and a dark tie, it might work. Then again, most people would shudder at the thought of getting married in seersucker...

Tropical beach? Don't need something you can also use for business? Then I suggest bespeaking a double-breasted cream linen. Looks superb against the sand and in tropical sunlight. Conspicuous and jazzy, but also elegant and classic. I have one, wore it to a tropical beach wedding. Looked great. (Sorry, no pics of it.) Also great in humidity. Here's a cream DB in gabardine. 4x1 Kent model, as in illustration, is probably the best cut for this. Linen with lower patch pockets would be more rumpled and casual-looking. I'd do a sky blue shirt and a tie with a navy ground and neat white geometrics. Or a black bow with white pindots.

Seersucker DB could be good too.

Non-tropical beach in the fall? DB blazer in navy blue, light gray wool trousers. Something like this. You can jazz it up with one of your loud ties.

"The beach in the fall" covers a lot of territory, especially depending on where you live. In my part of the world, it is usually hot as hell in early autumn, usually more so than in summer. In other areas and later in the season it can be quite brisk. Perhaps if you gave us more info on date and location you could get better advice.

lots of options here, in order of ubiquity:

blue blazer/light grey trousers + white shirt/mint green tie
blue blazer/cream or ivory trousers + same
tan cotton/pincord suit
cream linen suit (a la Tom Wolfe)
ivory dinner jacket

Bowties could go with all of the above. Seersucker suits are a bit overdone right now, but if you are a true righteous southerner you should at least consider it.

Light (cream, light gray, light blue, tan) linen suit sounds like the answer. Seersucker in any color would be an option as well. Skip the ribbon belt, go with a surcingle or leather. Penny or venetian loafers in brown or cordovan, bucks, dirty or white, wear socks. This is still a wedding.

Shirt will depend on your suit. Open collar versus tie is your choice.

Why not a mid-grey morning coat? By September, there's a good chance linen will be too cold.

I love morning coats, but no one in the US wears these, especially to a beach wedding in 90 degree heat.

I'm guessing by your reference to a tux, the wedding is in the evening. This was us as guests at a recent evening beach wedding in the Keys:

Suit, black linen; shirt black/cream silk aloha; shoes, black calf slip-ons; socks, no. I've also done like Sig. Rubinacci since we have the same haircut:

Agreed that hardly anyone wears them in the US, but it's his wedding. So I don't see why that's a problem, especially if the garment looks good, as you and I agree it does. Heat could of course be a big problem with a morning coat by the NC beach in September.

But (brainwave) what about a linen or fresco morning coat!
