How to determine full vs partial canvassing?

How can I check out a suit and determine whether its full or partial canvassing?

I know that if you separate the bottom corner of the jacket, below the pocket, and you feel 3 layers then its canvassed to some degree, but what degree is that exactly? And how do I determine which type of canvassing it is?

What you describe is a fully-canvassed jacket. To determine what type of canvassing, cut the jacket open.
