Hello dear Styleforum members!
I am in a bit of a jiffy trying to decide between three different shoes of the same kind of style as to which one is "best" aside from fit. The style is a pebble grain/scotch/alpine grain longwing blucher/derby to wear with a heather gray peak lapeled flannel winter suit. Kind of Cary Grant/James Bond/Gregory Peck but a bit more "rustic" look with a beautiful Midnight Navy Brioni tie. What I mean with "best" is the biggest bang for one's buck in terms of leather quality, shoe build quality/manufacturer, recraftability (if necessary) and so forth.
I did some searching and found three candidates I personally like. I'd love to have some input from shoe afficionados/experts. Size wise its a bit of a different discussion. I am a 12,5 D on the Alden Aberdeen Last, so a Barrie lasted J.Crew version on 11,5 D should fit as I hear near universal advice on Barrie Lasted shoes running one full size bigger. The Silvano Sassetti for PRL size 12D should work I guess, but I don't know anything about whether the sole of these shoes might be comfortable to walk on or whether they might be recraftable and mainly how these shoes - I mean to what quality standards - they have been made. The third option are the RRL Wilberforce, which are made by Jospeh Cheaney in England, probably Goodyear welted and resolable. Leather also looks top as well as the cut/form of the last (currently unavailable in my size online), and I assume since a 12 D in my Ralph Lauren Marlow Cordovan Penny Loafers made by Crockett & Jones fits me well I guess a 12 D from Cheaney should work there, too.
Candidate 1. Alden for J.Crew Pebbled Leather special makeup with exposed eyelets, double leather sole (345-386$)
Candidate 2: Double Ralph Lauren (RRL) Wilberforce made by Cheaney in England - French Grain Leather - Double leather sole - (439$ or more)
Candidate 3. Polo Ralph Lauren Pebble Grain McMurray (distressed) produced by Silvano Sassetti with that pretty beefy Vibram (winter) sole (275-325$)
