HOW TO "BUTCH UP" MY LEATHER JACKET

Gentlemen,I need your help. Some time ago,I purchased a two-toned oxblood/light red racer-style motorcycle jacket from Kenneth Cole; an impulse buy I now regret. The first time I wore the jacket out,one of my guy friends joked that I looked like Michael Jackson.I haven't worn it since. It was a relatively expensive purchase, and I'd like to be able to get some use out of it. I was originally drawn to both the style and the color of the jacket;now I feel like I need to find a sequined glove, white socks, and penny loafers to spin around in.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I might "butch up" this jacket? E.g., I've considered "weathering" it with sandpaper.Or dying parts of it black.Or, I could surrender and sell it on eBay.

What do you think?

Hey there, I really understand your concern. Generally speaking, we should wear what we feel comfortable. This is definitely true but I would suggest you could give your jacket a second Chance. More wears will give leather garments more casual Feeling and will definitely make you neglect it when you wear it. The jacket does sounds a Little bit dashy, color-wise, and difficult to pair. If it was me, I would Dress in similar, even darker Color including shoes. Or try the ground Color. Lemaire's or Margiela's lookbook might be helpful.
BTW, Looking like MJ isn't that bad unless you pair black loafers with White socks.

Wear the hell out of it. Real leather will get beaten up and age.

Or just rock it and ignore what your guy friends say. You should wear what you like, who cares what other people say.

I would just sell the KC jacket and put the money towards something I actually like. It's unlikely you can alter the jacket in a way that will make it look good, and if you muck it up, you won't even be able to sell it on eBay.
