I'll occasionally wear a light-weight t-shirt underneath my dress shirts. When I wear a white dress shirt, the outline of the undershirt is visible. How do I avoid this? Should I buy different white dress shirts? I prefer broadcloth as opposed to oxford cloth. Would I have this problem with a two-ply broadcloth shirt? Would something like 140s work better than 100s? I'm looking forward to your input!

Try using a light heather gray undershirt instead a white one (the light will reflect differently and will help hide it), or possibly look into buying long sleeve undershirts.

Also downsize the undershirt to skintight so you don't get any unsightly bulges etc.

there's really no way to avoid this unless the dress shirt is really thick or lofty, or your skin matches your undershirt color.

that said, no one really cares, everyone understands what an undershirt is. I don't think it's embarrassing to see.

alternatively, you might try to wean yourself off of undershirts.

An aspect; you have to be extremely well-built to get away with wearing a more than slightly see-through shirt. It's like small underwear.

And even you get away with it physically, you still need a nightclub to get away with it socially.

And it's still douchebaggy.

I realized it was a lot more obvious when the shirt wasn't fitted right. Although when I think about why that would work logically, I can't figure it out.

Chicks wear flesh-toned underwear for the "nude" look.

Edit: I have no idea where to find flesh-toned t-shirts (try a cotton-spandex mix for toned-flesh t-shirts).

Heather grey works fine. That's what I use.

I've seen flesh-toned Hanes. I occasionally wear a barong tagalog (see pic below) which is more translucent than your regular white shirt. Under it I wear a close fitting white undershirt that I've tanned a bit with tea (from a regular Lipton teabag). The slightly tanned undershirt looks better (still visible, but less obvious) than a regular white undershirt.

+1 works great. Seeing the undershirt makes you look too poor to buy nice fabric.

I've been wearing v neck undershirts for 30 years, it gives a more complete and comfortable look whether they're seen or not. IMO
