How to accurately measure...

This might have been talked about before unfortunately I could not find the thread.

I am curious as to how people measure their clothes to provide measurements. Some examples are, for chest, where do you start? Pit to Pit? For length on a jeans, is it waist to the bottom? And how do you accurately measure the waist on jeans especially when so many different companies have their own view of what their sizes are. I am basically looking for information on all different measurements.

Any help would be super appreciated.
