I recently got a Mephisto handcrafted shoe. They call it a sneaker but it has many of the qualities of a dress shoe - the upper is thin leather, there is no or little padding around the ankle and tongue. It reminds me of the saddle shoes I wore many years ago in Catholic school.
My issue is. I can slip on the shoe easy, without a shoe horn. There is a tight finger width in back of my ankle and maybe a thumbs width from the tip of the toe. This is standard how athletic shoes should fit. But it feels kind of loose. It's not a bad loose but I'm wondering if a smaller size would better in this style shoe. I also feel the upper dig down into my right big toe. It's not painful just a discomfort. Will this go away as the leather "breaks in"? Any comments?
