Since I no longer work and no longer attend church regularly, I rarely wear a tie these days. In November I wore one twice: The first time was to the funeral of a beloved neighbor. A majority of the men in attendance were in open-necked shirts. A few days later I wore coat and tie to Thanksgiving dinner at one of the very top restaurants in our city of 460,000. At least while I was there, I am pretty sure I was the only man in coat and tie. What more can I say?

I do wear ascots much of the time in cooler weather, including this very moment.

I am about to start wearing one every day, finally justifying the thrifting-tie-rampage I've been on to build the collection. Will have to dress them down since the new workplace is mostly biz casual.

Excited to start my tie-wearing career in a season that demands wools and knits.
