Hi, my name is Tom and I'm a shoe addict.

Now that we've established that little fact:

39 pair of shoes and boots this year -

26 pair last year - 15 remain in rotation

19 the year before - 4 remain in rotation

and yes, that is 58 pair in the current rotation, excluding trainers, sandals, etc.

As a result, I've no remaining shoes in my rotation which are less than AE/CT (Loake) quality. Unless I find a particular bargain, I'll not be making additional purchases until the January EG sale.

And I too am awaiting Aportnoy's numbers

    Can we see pictures???[IMG]

how often do you buy a pair of working shoes?

Whenever I find a good deal in a shoe I like. About 8-10 this year but I resold about half.

Four pair so far this year, and that probably makes me something of a lightweight in these precincts.
WOw... even I bought more than that - you have the restraint and patience of a holy man! I think I have bought 9 pairs since joining. Still a lightweight though!

No, just a wife who has more sense about such matters than I do.

I am such a slacker. I have one new pair this year and anticipate buying one more (formal wear) and maybe a second.

I've averaged one pair a month since finding the forum in Jan. '05. My shoe buying is slowing, since I have a nice rotation and shoes for most any occasion and since I need to buy other clothing, too. It's just so easy to succumb to shoe sales, whereas I need MTM shirts and prefer MTM jackets and suits for a proper fit.[IMG]

For the past three years, I have been a "shoe-aholic" as well.

    2003: 8 pairs

    2004: 17 pairs

    2005: 7 pairs

2006: 3 pairs (so far). In a little over an hour, I shall be departing for the A-E outlet at Cabazon, where I expect to purchase three more pairs (and possibly a pair for my boy). I have sworn that this MUST hold me for at least year. A-E has abetted this by introducing positively NOTHING that fits me well in their past three collections (Fall 2005, Spring 2006, Fall 2006).

    For 2006:
    3 VASS/3 EG /3-4 LOBB/Assorted lesser shoes

I have 3 VASS on order. Considering a pair or two of St. Crispin's. Contacted Tony Gaziano regarding bespoke.

All because of finding SF/AAAC in 2005. Before that probably a couple of lesser shoes a year with Ferragamo being the highpoint[IMG] .

And don't get me started on Attolini, Kiton, etc. My wife is pulling her hair out.

To answer the original question, if you alternate two pair every day for a year they will need sole replacements. During re-soleing your other pair will take a real beating because leather shoes should need time to recover after a wearing.

Three pair is the practical minimum. A comprehensive wardrobe is about eight pair, including weekend shoes. More is the realm of shoe addicts like many of the members of this forum.
