How My Suits and Blazers Fit?

Dear Styleforum members,

I have a feeling that some of my suits and blazers do not fit well. Seven pieces are by Ralph Lauren Purple Label and the two herring-bone sport coats by Polo Ralph Lauren.

It seems to me that the length of some of the pieces is too short. I am 1.88 m or 6 ft 2 in. All the items are size 40R except the grey tweed sport coat which is 40L.

All of items were purchased in RL Flagship Stores.

I very much need your opinion. Please comment.

Many thanks!
E

OK,here it comes from somebody that is 190cm or 6 ft 3 in and has some RL tailored pieces himself. Most of the suit jackets or sport coats are too short. Some of them criminaly so. The only one that is remotely the right length is the Heringbone tweed jacket. In my experience RL jackets are always on the short side but with R sizes that is even more pronounced. Hope that helps.

They are all too slim and short.

Adding: collar is also gaping from the neck.

I think the one with bellows pockets works! But yeah, the rest are so short ... I'm also 6'2", and although sometimes I feel the long sizes are a tad too long (by an inch or less), it's better than going this short. Gotta face it, we're L's.

Yes, they are all too short--especially the db with brass buttons. This is truly an indictment of RL stores. Salesmen should know better. But then again, things in their catalogue often fit like this. Sigh.

If you unbutton your jackets, the short length will be much less offensive.

One more thing to be aware of: it looks like you have short arms relative to your height, so don't judge your jacket length based on how the bottom ofyour jacket aligns with your hand.

Thank you very much indeed, everyone. Your observations are very interesting and you confirmed my feeling that something just doesn't look right.

It seems that suits and balzers offered by RL are generally on the short side. Would you agree on that?

Where would one go if one would like to wear this refined, somewhat British style such as double breasted blazers with brass buttons? MTM at RL is obviously quite a bit more expensive than of the rack.

Can anyone recommend a tailor - ideally in Europe or online - to have those pieces made MTM or bespoke?

Where are you and what's the budget?

Pretty sad that RL Flagship Stores didn't point out to you about the fit and at least get you to MTM ...

I expect clothing stores in Europe have way more knowledgeable staff compared to most cities in North America.

I am based in Switzerland, Germany, Austria and regularly travel to Moscow.

My budget for a DB blazer would be plus/minus 2500 EUR.

Not as familiar with that region and don't know whether you are looking for something that's actually English in terms of cut, or just a db with brass buttons (which anyone should be able to do).

That being said, here are some places you should look at in your region.

1) Michael Jondral. They sell things from a wide range of makers. RTW probably wouldn't work for you, but they have a bunch of trunk shows.

2) Massura Sartoria. No experience with their stuff and they are more Neapolitan, but their products look very nice on Instagram. A lot of people seem to like their stuff.

3) Maximilian Mogg. No experience with them. Some of their stuff can look a bit too vintage-y, but some of their stuff also looks quite good. They have a more structured cut and seem to like DBs a lot.

You should also look at what brands and tailors well-dressed Germans, Austrians, etc. use. For example, Beernhard Roetzel is well-dressed and German (I believe). Follow him on Instagram and see where he gets his clothes.
