In your opinion, how much does cost a good RTW (tag price):

1) Pair of shoes = 450 euros
2) Shirt = 120 euros
3) Suit = 900 euros
4) Tie = 70 euros
5) Cufflinks = 120 euros
6) Braces = 70 euros
7) Belt = 120 euros
8) Mac = 600 euros
9) Cashmere Coat / Woolen coat = 1 500 / 600 euros
10) Pair of leather gloves = 150 euros
11) Watch = 1 500 euros
12) Cashmere jumper = 400 euros
13) Pair of socks = 12 euros

I'm talking minimum 'tag prices' here, obviously you can spend a lot more. (These days in London you can get the styling for much cheaper, what with Reiss and Zara, but quality is a different issue - the below prices reflect quality and design)

(All prices in GBP)

1. Shoes = 250
2. Shirt = 40 (It may seem cheap, but see Marks and Spencer)
3. Suit = 800
4. Tie = 50
5. Cufflinks = 60
6. Braces = never bought, I'm not a NY or City stock broker.
7. Belt = 100
8. Mac = 400
9. Cashmere Coat / Wool Coat = 1200 / 800
10. Leather gloves = 60
11. Watch = 2000
12. Cashmere sweater = 250
13. Socks = Depends on fabric eg. cotton, silk, cashmere.

It depends what you mean by "good." I think the shirt price might be a little low - for a quality shirt with single needle stitching, MOP buttons, etc. you are probably looking at closer to 150-180 Euro. This is about the normal price range for Zegna shirts, which are the minimum of what I'd consider "good."

Most of the other prices you listed are too high, such as cufflinks, belts, and especially watches (there are plenty of quality automatic watches for 300-400 Euro).

Zegna shirts are utter bollocks compared to M&S Shirts, (fabric by cotonifico albli) M&S = 35 pounds, Zegna = min 60 pounds.

400 euro for a watch is a bit off to say the least. I'm sure a lot of people are sneering at you.

Yes, I'm sure it's easy to sneer when you're a 17 year old boy living in your mom's basement and carrying out a pathetic charade of pretending to be a multibillionaire steel magnate.

I have not seen M&S shirts but based on other department store shirts I have seen and my general knowledge of M&S' merchandise, I would be surprised if they did not have double needle stitching and plastic buttons.

As for watches, they demonstrate the rule of diminishing returns more than any other clothing or accessories. It's easy to find a quality automatic movement for under $500; anything you pay over that is going for appearance or (more likely) name and perceived prestige.

I purchased the watch I'm wearing today from Marinella for 360 Euro - I would put it up against any watch costing 2000 Euro, and I have the extra 1600 to spend on suits, shirts, ties, etc.

4) Tie = $99 (Carlo Franco)
5) Cufflinks n/a

9) Cashmere Coat / Woolen coat $800 (Saks/Barney's/NM house brand)
10) Pair of leather gloves n/a

Steel magnate? What the hell do you mean?

Basement - no sorry boss, the maids, butler, drivers, and security guards sleep there, and yes I don't know of many 17 year olds that don't live with their parents, so I don't see your point. Perhaps you come from a broken home.

Good for your general knowledge - unfortunately you are wrong on both counts. In addition, I never knew it was a department store.

Wow, you can read an Economics textbook, woo you. Unfortunately, you have misinterpreted the concept; DR is a concept for normal goods, not watches, which are not a normal good. Moreover, prestige is not perceived, it is a factor of demand, and has no link to either a de-merit good, or externality.

Do not concern yourself so much with my life.

Give it up, Avnish. Â After all the BS you have posted here, why should anyone take you seriously or believe that you have "maids, butler, drivers, and security guards" in your home? Â You are a running joke on this board. Â Do I need to remind you of this:

Does anyone have a clue what this "Bryce" guy is talking about?

Who is "Avnish"?

What is the relevance of the picture? Yes, it is a nice watch, is he trying to say it cost him 400 Euros? Last time I checked, that model's retail is about 18,500

Whose watch is that? I'm lost.

My watch is a simple (but not TOO cheap) gold and SS Seiko. It has served me quite well. The idea of spending money on a Cartier or Rolex seems silly to me. I could invest the savings, and in 2-3 years have enough return to buy 2 or 3 Rolex's, although I would rather reinvest that money. It reminds me of one of my father's favorite sayings, "Don't spend money on anything that's not going to make you money." You could say a nice suit is extravagant, but I don't think so - it's more of an investment. It is important to have quality suits if you would like to have a good job. My car is a different story. Heh heh. But spending more than 400 USD on a watch seems ludicrous to me. I have a clock on my cell phone, after all. Again, it just comes down to personal tastes I guess.

Linux, I finally see something I agree with you on. It's amazing. I am with you, I could never spend an absurd amount on a watch, I think $400 is plenty. I might spend $1k on a watch ONCE. Styleman/whatever, you are SUCH a bad liar.

Kalra posted that picture when he was still posting under that moniker in an argument with Ernest about whether or not Diamonds on watches are ugly or something equally pointless.

Just to add to that explanation, the reason it was so funny at the time was that he was still pretending to be Lakshmi Mittal, whose skin is more than a few shades darker than the arm in the picture.
