How much waist suppression do you prefer?

Most of the men here are in decent shape, and relatively younger. After viewing that Tom Ford white suit pic, how much do you prefer the jacket to pull?

With a 10 inch drop, I have varied my waist supression between suits. Some jackets pull slightly, others have about 1.5 inches of room. I feel the roomier suits are more appropriate for business though. Always a double vent with roomier trousers due to squats and deads. Any tips would be appreciated.

What do you like? Try posting a pic of you wearing a suit you think looks good and see what responses you get. Although I respect everyone's opinions here, understand that there is a range of responses you get from those that are pretty conservative and unwavering on their perceptions of taste, and those that are a little more open and appreciate differences that are not considered traditional.

I like it nipped in the bud.

But I can also appreciate a hip sack suit, preferably an old model from Brooks Brothers.

I like significant waist suppression, but without straining at the button. I want a nice shape to the jacket.

The waist suppression was one of the things that sold me on this coat: (No, it's not my tie.)

Ditto. I have a ten inch drop so I get more than enough waist suppression by simply tidying up around the waist. If I were to really clean up the waist I'd look like a cartoon character. Besides, I like to be able to sit comfortably without unbuttoning my jacket.

It also depends on construction. I have a Cornelliani & Isaia which are very softly tailored and highly unstructured, whereas a Pal Zileri which is like a suit of armor - Brioni Nomentano style. Also a flannel Dunhill by Zegna which is very boxy. Had it tailored, but with still 2 inches of room since a overly nipped flannel might look strange.

I'm going to take pics as well. Any specific makers recommended? Measurements are:
46 inch chest
36 inch waist
20 inches across the shoulders, which are fairly sloped
I'm 6'3", but take a Regular length since I have longer legs to the behest of shoddy department store salesmen. Rest assured, the back of the jacket at 32 inches from collar to bottom covers the seat.

I'm also a 10-inch drop, and I like a jacket that (subtly) reveals the lines of my body. But it's a fine line between fitting and constricting, and I'd rather err on the side of too little suppression than too much. There's a quote on the Barbera website where he says, "Any time I see a man playing golf or tennis in his jacket, I know he and I could be friends." I'm not sure about playing tennis, but I agree with the basic idea.

Waist suppression? I'd wear a frickin' girldle if I could get away with it.

48 XL, 6 inch drop (5 if I'm not lying).

I like I nice silhouette and my waist does not flux. more than 1" during the year. I push it; just snug enough so the bottons do not strain the jacket.

Really like this coat, doc. Good buy. And the Steed pic is awesome.

Thanks! It's just an old Bladen hacking jacket. Bit on the ratty side, bit short, but I love it and wear it all the time in cooler weather. (If anything, the waist suppression is slightly more pronounced than it appears in the pic.)
