How much is too much to spend on luggage?

I was wondering what were people's wallet threshold for spending on luggage? Are you paying for comfort of transport or do you want other people to know exactly what kind of bag you lug around?

one billion dollar is definitely too much. Aside from that knock yourself out. From free gift with long vanished publication logos on them to gold plated Hermès custom luggage I mean who cares.

But would we be the price where the luggage is worth it? I know this might be arbitrary across the board, but is $1000 on luggage unreasonable? Is $10,000 unreasonable? Where's the line of unreasonable and reasonably priced function or reasonably priced mix of form and function?

The line is when you don't obtain additional personal gratification from what paying higher could bring you, considering what you can afford.

For checked luggages, I just get a bunch of Samsonites. They're cheap and durable enough. I will not spend more than 500 for those. Just think about your >$1000 piece of luggage that get thrown around in the airport...

Of course, your briefcase is a totally different story.

it really depends on how you use it - I travel 120 or more legs a year, for me luggage is more important than my car. also, its very common for people I work with to travel with me, or at least see me in the airport or on the way to the airport.

I still don't get obsensly expensive stuff - I think that they two peices I have now cost 1000 bucks together, maybe 1200. I have to buy luggage every 3 or so years, just because they don't hold up as well as I'd like. I'd never spend more than $1K on a piece of luggage.

I like luxury bags that arent flashy. If it has a small logo its fine but nothing that screams im a label whore (even though secretly I am)

Nice things get stolen too easily.

I don't like bags with logos or that are easily recognized, but I do like nice carry-on bags. Something well-used with a classic look to it really appeals to me.

This is especially true with checked luggage. I wouldn't trust checking a nice piece of luggage.

I approach this two ways. First, any luggage that gets checked is black and anonymous to reduce the chances of it getting ripped off. Second, I need something durable, if it is checked, so I get Briggs & Riley. Not only is it almost bulletproof, but when it does get damaged, B&R fixes it for free every time.

So, whatever the cost of a B&R bag is now, is worth it and not at all too much to spend.

I have spent four figures on carry on luggage and brief cases. But that never gets checked and lasts a very long time. Perhaps my son will get them one day?

From time to time I also simply travel with a 1980's era LL Bean tan canvas duffle bag. It is my anti-business trip bag. I feel like I'm off on an adventure with it.

$1,000 is not too much to spend if you travel every other week.

$1,000 is way too much if you only travel once a year.

I am a kind of person who gives first preference for comfort and durability and price is never a issue. My favorite brand is Briggs & Riley as they provide great quality luggage that is stylish as well.
