Simple poll: how much in student loan do you owe? You can sum up your undergrad, grad, MBA, Ph.D., bartending school, etc.

I had scholarships for my undergrad and will be putting myself through grad school while I work full time.

I have less than 50k thanks to my generous parents. Still after 1 year out of school I could pay them back in full which is a good feeling.

BTW: Am I crazy to carry my student loans even though I could pay them off several times over? The interest rates are extremely low and I just sleep better at night knowing I have that cash on hand should something terrible happen.

If you're paying anywhere around 3%, I'd just sit on it. Having cash in this financial environment makes lots of sense, IMO. At the least, you can pounce on some cheap assets when the opportunity arises.

the figure of $50k is too high to start.

I had about $15k in loans when I graduated, down to about 1k now.

Law school/MBA/Med schools are the real asskickers. Expect to have $100k-200k in loans when you graduate

Yeah this is the way I feel to. Still it just sounds so good to say "I'm completely debt free, I don't owe anyone anything". Interest rates are somewhere in the low 4s so I'll probably hang on to them until the current crisis eases.

I had $0.00 for undergrad too. Something about 25k a year for tuition and books in grad school makes pay as you go a little tough in some programs.

I had about $53K in law school loans when I graduated. Three years later, with timely monthly payments, it's down to $47K *sob* At least the interest on it is low.
