cheers, gents!

Would you mind to share how much you pay for tailoring small services such as jacket`s waist supression, shortning (?) jacket`s lenght, etc?

Several thousand per suit, but the tailor throws in the suit for free.

It depends on where you live. I assume it's way cheaper in Brazil than over here, but to give you a rough idea, my tailor would charge in the ballpark of 130 dollars for the alterations you mention (suppressing the waist, shortening the jacket length).

Well.. This services are not cheap in Brazil - maybe because it last a few tailors since everybody seems to prefer the ready-to-wear. That kind of craft is lost. And, sadly, I don't know local tailors well acquainted w/ concepts and styles as the drape, for instance.

Last trip to the local men's shop was just over $90, I had the sleeves shortened and buttons moved on a jacket and I had two shirts taken in on the side. There is another lady in town who will charge $60-100 for taking in the sides of a jacket or coat.

After losing some weight, I took my suit to my local tailor.

My general request is to slim down and update the suit.

The works done are:

Jacket:
- Shortening sleeve length
- Taking in waist

Pants:
- Shortening the leg and adding cuff
- Taking in the seat
- Slimming the legs

All for $75.

I have had a jacket shortened before and he charged $30.

I use Adel at the Alteration Shop in New York City. He does a brilliant job, and I've never paid more than $100 for a whole suit (take in the waist and cuffs on the pants, waist supression, sleeve length and collar on the jacket).

A local tailor has just asked the equivalent to 286 USD to shorten a jacket's lenght, suppress its waist and a chest adjustment.

That's an absurd amount. Go find someone else. Unless you're getting handmade buttonholes done as well, I can't see it breaking $200 that easily. I go to Wilshire Tailor in LA, and this guy works with Beverly Hills clients and I see Brionis, Kitons and RLPLs everywhere. He charged me $125 to fix shoulders, back, waist and cleaned up the sleeve buttons (which were done poorly from before) and I thought that was expensive. From a skill perspective, he's as high as I would need to go. The only time I broke $200 was when I had him also add 8 functional buttonholes on the sleeve (done by hand). That cost me $20 per buttonhole.
