How much for a white suit?

My local Off-Fifth has a handful of Z-Zegna white suits, with 2 in my size. They've been there for a bit and I am waiting for them to go clearance, because obviously they will. At the moment they are like $511 and when they clearance I suspect them to be a little over $200.

My question is how much would you guys pay for a white suit? Here in SD the use of the suit could extend into September. But there are obviously the questions of maintenance (keeping it clean) etc... and this is making think 200 may even be too much, or the suit may just not be worth it. Thoughts?

I'm sure Don Johnson would not dare place a maximum amount on a white suit.

there's a place for white suits. $200 for a Z Zegna, presuming the cut works for you, is a good value in terms of the brand/construction. Just keep in mind, a white suit is something that you'll likely not wear more than a few times per year, so its expensive on a per-wear basis.

I would, and have almost, paid $300 for a white linen suit. If it is cotton, it will look cheap though. If it is linen, it'll look alright.

The cut works very well for me. Although as the collector notes, it is a cotton, so its cheapness may show through (cough made in mexico cough)

I would pay 200+ (if the cut works very well for you).

Don't think too much about maintenance. Wearing a white suit is a pleasure/ a challenge, which is more worth than 200+.

The dry cleaning bill might soon exceed the cost of an inexpensive white suit.

I paid around $400-$500 for a white (well, slightly off-white) suit. It's fun. But the dry-cleaning costs will add up after a while.

If you don't mind that, go for it because it's always exciting to go out the door on a sunny day dressed in white.

+1

Good luck keeping it clean. Make sure you use the best dry cleaner in town.

Bought mine at H&M for just over $100 if I remember correct. I've only worn it a handful of times.

So...

Suit went on sale... but for 330. Not quite worth it in my book. We'll see if I can't resist cause I still trust no one to buy it.

On the good side I got a Michael Bastian blazer for 275 in a 38, probably the best fitting OTR coat I've ever had.
