Tipping at a bar or restaurant is pretty straightforward, but how much do you tip taxi drivers?

You tip taxi drivers. It's accepted.

I usually 'round up', ie: if it's an $8 ride, I'll do $10. Below $8 or so I usually try to do 20% ish, but I'm not quibbling over 20 cents.

there are cabs, but they are pretty in-practical since most people drive atleast 6-7 miles roundtrip to work, and it doesn't cost to park your car in as many places here as it does in larger cities.

but honestly if you've paid your fare and did not made any special/difficult requests why would you tip the driver? do you tip for fast food?

Your tip is priced in. A fast food worker makes an hourly wage that's at least minimum wage.

( i hope that I am not coming across as intentionally trying to be an ass).

ohh, I assumed taxi drivers either owned their cars and set their rates... or drove for a company and were paid an hourly wage.

you learn something new everyday

$0-5 for a $10-15 fare. Depends on purpose.

He get's nothing (I might not even pay all the metered fare) if he doesn't follow my directions.

$3+ if he follows my directions and gets me home safely late at night or middle of morning. (So I don't need to walk through bad neighborhoods at night usually after long travel/etc.)

Around the neighborhood, tip $2 for a good ride or $1 for a quickie.

Very imprecise of me, but I ususally give a buck for rides $4 - $10 (plus any change less than 50 cents ). Rides under $3 they get the change unless it's under $.50 in which case I'll toss in what I another 25-30 cents. $11 and over rides get $2 (unless change is 75 cents or more, in which case it's a buck + the change). FWIW, I beleive the generally accepted tip on a taxi ride in NYC used to be 10%.....

To me it depends. How far were going and how many people are in the car. If its a full car and were going a long distance, well usually split the ride and leave a pretty decent tip (60$ well usually leave 80$ remember its only 20$ a person then 15$ + 5$ tip) But if im aone i would prolly only leave 70.

Also it depends on how long the guy is driving for. If its a 5 minute ride i wouldnt leave as big of a tip as for a 45 minute ride. Even proportionaly.
