How much of a tip do you generally leave for basic housekeeping service in a hotel?

None. If you're particularly grateful because of a special request, leave a few bucks before you leave. Make sure it's for the person you have in mind.

I usually leave a couple of dollars on the vanity. If I'm staying more than a couple of days I'll tip $5.00 every three days or so. Anything special gets $3 to $5 on the spot.

I used to travel a lot for work.. I usually left 3-4 dollars for my 3 night stays if the service was good. If the service was mediocre, then I left nothing. Of course, I expensed this tip..

my friend who used to work as a concierge told me leaving a dollar, folded and standing up, on the bed everyday is enough tip.

$1-$3 per day depending on the amount of mess and the grade of the hotel, more ($5-$10 a day) for high-end hotels. Leave the tip someplace where it's clear that it's a tip -- on the pillow or on the desk with a note.

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
