I'm 16 years old, don't got much money. I pay $7...a bit too cheap, but I find it worth more than the price.

I pay $18 plus a tip; usually another $4. I find this to be on the lower end, considering it is an actual 'stylist'. Great Clips is much cheaper ($10 I think?) but I wouldn't trust the people there. I've been going to the same girl for 5 years or so, she knows exactly how I like it cut. There are more expensive salons in my city ($50-$85) but I think there is a limit as far as the quality over price. When you are paying $85 you aren't getting a much better haircut (proportionally) than when you pay $30.

I pay $0. I cut it myself every week or so in the shower. After trying many different cheapo places and a few more expensive places I only trust myself no matter what the price. No one else can get it right, or beat the price.

I've been following my hairdresser between saloons for 10 years so we have a very good relationship. It costs me around $25 but every other time I end up buying a $15 shampoo or conditioner so it actually costs me somwhat more.

As I'm preparing to move away I'll have to find myself another hairdresser and I fully expect there will be a lot of bad haircuts befor I'll find someone decent.

I sometimes have my hair-cut in China where I frequent.

A more than decent cut by a qualified and skillful stylist (barber if you like) + a comfortable hairwash cum head massage + a comfortable massage of my shoulders, arms and back. The whole process takes about 45 mins to 1 hr and it sets me back by RMB25.00, which converts to about USD3.00.

    Now that's value.

What I would(if I could) pay for a good massage...
I've resorted to this method as well. Â I just take a clipper, attach the #4 guide, and clip away. Â Before college I paid from $7 to $8 per haircut before tip($9 to $10 including tip). Â Here there is one decent traditional barber who charges $12 exclusive of tip(usually ended up paying $14 with tip), and he's pretty good. Â Since the time I decided to keep my hair on the short side, though, I couldn't justify paying $14 just to go and have it clipped. Â With my clipper, doing it at home costs basically nothing. Â Once in a while if I decide not to cut it as short as usual, though, if my parents are in town they'll cut it for me - gratis, of course. Â Now if only they would throw in a massage.

$30 plus a 20% tip = $36. Cut by a German married to an Indian working next to an Iranian in an Italian-owned salon in Plano, Texas. Gotta love America.

I've gone to the same stylist for years, and beginning this year the cost went from $18 to $21.  With the tip it comes to $25 every 3 weeks -- more than worth it for the shampoo / scalp massage alone.

In NY I pay $25, including tip; in Houston I pay $18, and for a better haircut. Â [IMG]

I cut my own hair. I've got a buzz cut, so it takes me about 10 minutes with a clipper.

One of the few advantages of being nearly bald.

I pay $25 for the cut, plus a $5 tip. Usually go every 4-5 weeks.

I think she charges new clients $30, but I've been with her for nearly 5 years and 3 salons now.

    $25 + $10 tip.

I can't figure out how people cut their own hair. How do you see the back of your head, hold your hair, and cut at the same time? Are you hiding an extra arm?

I do occassionally go over my head with a thinning shears when it's getting too think. Generally buys me an extra week before I have to go back for another cut.

Last week, I got a colouring, clip and conditioner/scalp massage. Cost NKr. 1000 (US$ 140). Bit steep even for Norway but everything is expensive here. The stylist upped her prices this January to cover the cost of new premises.

It's something you get used to.  Even before I started clipping my own hair I trimmed my hair as far back as junior high.  I started shaving my neck(admittedly, it's easier when my father shaves my neck for me) every week back in junior high, and it feels so clean. Sometimes all this requires manipulation of a mirror.
