quick question - I am looking at a piece of fabric that is 3.8 meters, and I am not sure it's enough for a suit.

I'm 5'5, 40 inch waist, something like 48 or so chest, but largish shoulders. 28 inch sleeves, 30 inch legs.

can anybody give me some advice here?

I'm pretty sure you need just 3 yards of cloth for a suit, possibly more if it is patterned (i.e. striped, plaid, etc.).3.8 meters sounds like more than enough.

The tailors I went to in VN and China have invariably told me I needed 3.5 for a 2-piece.

We're not the same build (I'm skinnier but also taller than you); don't know how that impacts the length you need.

3.8 mtr should be sufficient, depends on the tailor and the cut. Best way to know, call your tailor!

Cloth need is mostly depend on the height of a man but not the width. I do believe 3 m is enough for a SB 2 piece. For 3.8 m, you can 3 pc DB.

3.8 m should be enough, provided the width of the cloth is 60".

There is something wrong in the thoughts of almost every post in this thread and 3.8 meters will work for you G.

Width or girth of the pattern is just as relevant to lengths in regard to the amount of cloth needed.
