Flusser was totally wrong about this.

I would rather die than dress like how he thinks Asians should dress--which is, hilariously in a sort of racist way, exactly as one would stereotype the way Triad types dress.

Steel colour+blacks+navy+white in other word the super-sleek urban look they wear in Infernal affairs. I like the Francis Ng look with the Hawaian shirts but I agree IA is too sleek and boring, it works with how HK looks though, very urban and modern (well parts of HK).

As for colouring well I dunno how this works so I guess I don't consciously pay attention to it.

Well, his reasoning, even assuming his premises, is stupid. High-contrast complexion/hair should not necessarily require a high-contrast outfit when the midpoint between black hair and pale skin is approximately the same as that for tan skin and brown hair.

I was guessing, I don't even know who these colour specialists are. I merely assumed that the triad stereotype you were talking about wasn't the colourful, 90s type but the sleek, urban, slim fit black, grey, navy, white infernal affairs one as it is the complete reverse of what you wear (in fact very rustic, lots of texture, brown more important than black, etc).

I have no idea what colour theory requires of me and will stay happily ignorant.

The thing is, I read Color for Men and I didn't understand it. Or, at least, I never saw what she claims to see. The Flusser photos were similarly unpersuasive and then once you notice they are doctored, even the possibility of belief drains away.

However, even if I did believe it, I am not sure how I would respond. I like all kinds of colors and combinations and I can't see giving them up to remain in the same narrow range just because they are supposedly "my" colors.

Like you two, I have never seen a convincing theory or approach to coloring. I am happy living free of it, and only rejecting a thing here or there when it just doesn't look right.

i am dark skinned (obviously), so i avoid dark browns, especially for suits. when i've tried them they come off muddy. also i've noticed gray and light browns (khaki/tan) work with my skin color the most ... much more so than navy.

i dont pay a lot of emphasis to hair on my head or eye color; i am bald and my eyes are standard order for an african... lol

x2

Not to mention, if you are a summer, your color pallet sucks.

A safe way to go about it for the more technically inclined might be to compliment staple base colors (charcoal, navy, etc) with repetition of ones own complexion within the accessories(square/tie)

I don't have any idea what season I am, but I do know I look better in higher contrast than lower. Tried lower for a while, thinking it might be more nuanced and sofis-tie-cated, only to discover it didn't flatter.

Similarly, I find cream shirts hard to wear -- they make me look muddy. Same with tan up top.

So I kinda believe in it, but I put only so much stock in it.

There's got to be some middle ground for recognizing that some combinations such as a natural linen suit on a person with summer coloring are really hard to pull off while simultaneously not going overboard with the whole thing.

Summer what?

Can somebody, in very few sentences, explain to me what it means to be a particular season? And what am I?

Well I am sure most do consider it, without needing any theory to back it up or having read about it, but it is really more of a case by case basis. I have very dark hair and eyes and somewhat pale skin with no red in it (in other words I go from white to tan and that's about it, like a lot of Italians, argentinians or Southern french I guess) and I do indeed tend to wear outfits where the shirt or tee is highly contrasted with the jacket (so white + black/navy/plum). I don't mind lighter jackets anyway (I have a beige cotton 3 1/2 with safari pocketsthat gets a lot of wear in warm climates) but I'll usually wear white pants and a stripped blue shirt with that one. Light jackets are also some of the only ones I wear with the few colourful squares I own (RJCat square + 2 Hermès fairytale series).
