anything of mine torso that comes in direct contact with skin: underwear, socks, undershirts, tshirts i wash after every wearing.

anything that doesnt like a dress shirt (i usually wear an undershirt), lined pants, jackets, suits, i dont wash that much. hardly dry clean as well. i will hand wash sweaters and shirts on the collars and cuffs.

i dont wash regularly certain jeans.

+1.

I can't wear shirts twice. Even if you haven't sweated much, what about the wrinkles that inevitably appear by the end of the day?

I would think that this might depend on the body habitus of the individual and what time of year it was. In the summer it's hot, I tend to sweat and so I wash my dress shirt after one wear. In the winter my t-shirt barely has any sweat on it, so my dress shirt has essentially no odor, so I'll let it go for a second wear. But definitely t-shirts/socks/underwear get only one wear before being washed.

My bother recently worked with someone off the boat from Holland, and was told that a few of their European colleagues would wear the same work clothes all week!? He had to break the news of American dressing habits to his new worker.

Underwear / Undershirts / Socks = 1 Wear, then wash
Shirts* = 2 Wears (because undershirts protect the shirts)
Pants = 3-4 Wearings then wash (Unless some piss slashed off a toilet bowl..then wash right away)
Shoes = Never the same pair 2 days in a row.

*An additional tip I will share with you all about shirts...
This is useful if you have to run in the morning..
Take a sheet of paper towel, and fold lengthwise.
Slip it under the shirt collar and do not fasten the top button.
Leave your tie slightly undone.

I take public transit, and have to run for buses & trains, so having things loose allows my body to cool faster.
The paper towel slipped under the collar, absorbs perspiration, and protects the shirt.
Once at work for a few minutes, I remove the paper towel, button my shirt, and look great all day.
With this method and a fresh undershirt each day, I can easily get 2-3 wearings with a shirt.

If the only person who knows is you, and if there hasn't been a significant ammount of soiling (persperation, spills) and as long as it passes the sniff-test, why not get a second or even third wear out of a dress shirt? I presume nobody is wearing a handmade Canali to a construction site. I also presume if you're wearing dress clothing to a temp-controlled office and working in a non-physically active setting you aren't breaking a sweat.

Honestly I think some people here have let their attention to detail evolve into mild OCD.

Note: not referring to underwear. Of course, one wear only. But if anyone can honestly say they have never hit laundry day, realized they are out of clean undershirts, and grabbed yesterday's, sniffed, and said, "yeah, it'll do." Never? Please. Maybe you were meant to be born a woman.
