How many miles did you run today?

Performance wise…Ehhh…Hard to say objectively, but my gut leans towards ‘no’. I mean, everyone makes a merino wool blend fabric these days. That’s really the primary performance element.

The fit, finishes, and overall aesthetic feel/look better than competitors though.

I have Patagonia capilene gear as well and think highly of it. But fit wise it’s always a little too loose here, too tight there, too long, etc. Its not the end of the world. Just something that became more prominent when I started picking up more TS pieces.

If that matters to you, maybe try a pair of the turnover tights or Brighton base layer. If you don’t care much about looking pretty with muted earth tones, save the cash.

I have similar problems with Capilene, but have solved them by shopping eBay for 20+-year old pieces. The large shirt from 1990 fits so much better than the current mediums…

The combination of two race weekends and Thanksgiving away from home will have me off the bike for the better part of two weeks. I'm envious of all the turkey trots and Black Friday rides that people get to do. I have been at home for only two Thanksgivings in the past 20 years.

I think you may be understanding the inverse of what I'm saying. When I say "home" I mean where I live, not where my parents live. I haven't had Thanksgiving with my parents since I left for college.

If by chance that's what you thought I meant, then I'm quite curious why you think that makes me lucky.

On clothing, a buddy of mine has started carrying Roark brand clothing in his shop and while it's around the same price level as Lulu I find it has more thoughtful design and interesting styling. I only have a hat and 7" lined shorts so far but I've been impressed

12.1 miles this morning at an 8:13/mile pace. Temps were around 20° when I kicked it off. I rarely run through the neighborhoods to the south so decided to head that way today. It’s always nice to “explore” through areas close to home that you don’t really know all that well.

5.5 miles, with a long break at 3 miles to play with my kids and dogs at the park. I ran the last 2.5 with one of the dogs. Temps in the mid 50s.

I gave this brand a look on your recommendation. They seem to make a wide array of clothing, much of it causal in nature. Found the running section though and isolated a pair of shorts that seem intriguing…Although the model is wearing a pair of Wildhorse 5’s which isn’t a great sign. Can you help me discern why I’d want choose the Roark’s over the tried an true Patagucci Striders?

I’ve heard of Roark and agree it was tough to figure out why I’d go with them.

I just got back from traveling and got in 7.3 miles. Did some basic crap at the hotel but oh boy was the gym terrible.

Honestly I can't tell you why to pick them over Patagonia, I've just been happy with what I have from their Run Amok line. Might be worth buying and trying back to back and returning what you don't like. I like their attention to detail on pockets with magnet closures and low profile zip pockets. From the pictures I think their waistband might be a bit more comfortable too vs Patagonia. I do like the material how water and sweat bead off but still very mobile and not constricting. There might be a style preference as well

Went home to visit the parents for Thanksgiving week, got some solid riding in

7.2 miles this morning at 9:23/mile pace. We had about 3” of snow yesterday and today was my first run of the season in any measurable snow and it’s always a rude reminder when I look at my pace and see how much I’m forced to slow down on uncleared streets and paths. Oh well, not much I can do about that.

Speaking of running in snow, I’m always reminded of this gem around this time each year:

8.2 miles today. It was low 50s so I could wear shorts and a tshirt. I recall last year between Christmas and New Years I was running in shorts before it got cold again.

Feels good to run again after a travel break.

4 mile trail run at Marshall Mesa, after a couple of hours of fishing and about a mile of scrambling along South Boulder creek in Eldorado Canyon. Temps around 70… I caught four brown trout.
