How many miles did you run today?

I forgot to mention this strange encounter I had yesterday during my run.

So, it’s summer and thus hot for most of the country. As a heavy runner, I don’t tend to fare well in temps above 80 with high exposure, so I opt for short shorts and no shirt as previously discussed.

I was about 4-5 miles in when I came up on a guy walking with a couple girls. A lot of people walk the trail and we normally just mind our own business as we pass in opposing directions. This chap seemed to zero in on me and as I came within speaking distance cried out “Hey buddy...Nice dick!!”. This was equal parts confusing and amusing. I was wearing black shorts with a brief liner, so the chances of any excessive exposure were low...at least vs. the half tights I normally wear. I just said thanks and kept it rolling.

Do any of you guys get weird comments by passerby’s or is it just me? I think I attract this sort of thing as it happens somewhat regularly.

You can't fault a guy for trying his luck, can you? Have a heart, buddy.

There is a road here that I've been catcalled on three times in my relatively short running career, and its always been funny/ complementary.

Should've just said "Thanks!" and kept running.

Occasionally, I'll run clockwise on the track instead of the normal counterclockwise to balance out the turns. Every once in a while someone will try to say something to me but I just ignore them. I just stay out of their lane and move out of the way (since I'm going the opposite direction) when coming up on people. Most people don't mind.

I was catcalled once while cycling. It was an older black woman, and she said, “Oh, I just wanna smack that ass.”

As for dick comment, just reply; “His name is George. Would you like to pet him?”

7 very uneventful miles today @ 7m54s/mile pace. Bit quicker than my usual training runs but it was flat and on road whereas I generally run on hillier trails. Did 859 miles for the first half of the year which I’m sure is the most I’ve run in 6 months before.

I used to get unexpected and sometimes graphic compliments more often when I was in full team cycling gear. But I also used to get more hostility too - things thrown at me from soda through snowballs to iron bolts. That's Britain for you: it's not a nice place. Nothing like this has ever happened to me in Canada.

I don't get any trouble when I'm running here (except the occasional dog) because I almost never see anyone.

I’m a bit shocked you got grief out running in the UK. Where was that? I’ve been running for about 15 years in London, Bristol and other places and I’ve had a few cars beep at me (hard to interpret, but I always assume it’s people admiring my immaculate form) and a few possibly sarcastic comments (“Run Forrest” and the like) but no outright hostility. I know a lot of women get things shouted while they’re running but I assumed that was unfortunately commonplace wherever you go.

best comment i've ever gotten was on a trail run with two friends. i'm on the heavier side compared to the rest of my club and the guys i was running with are both BQ'ers so i'm probably about 15 - 20 seconds behind them ascending this hill. a guy coming down stepped off trail for them and waited for me and as i passed he says "it's tough keeping up with those skinny guys, i know"

I usually have headphones in so if somebody is making a comment to/about me, I generally don't hear it. However I do turn my music down when I get into more crowded areas or run through our a downtown. One afternoon last summer I was running through town and turned my music down and heard some teenage girl say something to the effect of, "Daaaaammmmnnnn!" as I ran past and her friend replied with "Yeah, I see him!"

I don't know for sure that they were talking about me or if I heard them correctly, but it was still a definite ego boost.

I gradually realized that one of those duckboat tours was pacing me, and when I turned to see what was up, the guide started blasting “Eye of the Tiger.” We all laughed.

Yes. The shoreline of Alcatraz is a sensitive wildlife habitat, so they start just offshore.
