Nothing today, but yesterday I finished perhaps the toughest race of my life.

It was a three-day ultra-distance triathlon - the Ultraman World Championships. It's essentially a circuit of the island of Hawai'i.

Day One was a 6.2 mile (10km) swim from the Kailua-Kona Pier (same start as the Ironman here) to Keahou Bay. From Keahou Bay, we rode to the town of Volcano (90 miles -145km).

Day Two is a bike ride from Volcano around the island (adding a loop on the Red Road), through Hilo and up through Waimea, over the Kohalas and up to Hawi (171.4 miles -276km).

Day Three is a run from the town of Hawi along the coast south to the old Kailua-Kona Airport (now a park). 52.4 miles (84.3km)

The swim was pretty damned hard. My time for it was over an hour slower than my PR for the distance (set during Ultraman Canada in 2011) at 5:15.
The first bike stage was hard, mostly because my shoulders were really sore. I ended up finishing Day One 11 minutes before the cutoff (11:49).
The Day Two bike course was one of the best days I've ever had on a bike. The scenery was breathtaking, and the course fairly fast. I finished the day in 9:07.
Day Three is my weak point. Given that the temperatures ranged from the low to upper 80s during the day, the fact that I PR'd was amazing. I bettered by marathon PR by 5 minutes (don't laugh, I've never done a marathon on it's own!) at 4:35 on my way to a 50 mile PR (9:51) and a double marathon PR at 10:13.

I'll have to write up a full race report as time allows.

Haven't posted in here in quite a while...
Ran a 10 mile race Saturday. Course is 5 miles out and back, completely flat and no turns.
Split 29'38 for the first 5 miles running somewhat relaxed, then came back in 27'20 with a 5'20 last mile for a surprise pr of 56'58 (ran a 57'02 a few years ago at the same race). I think the second half was probably a 5 mile pr for me...

Not until I saw it on the LL Bean site had I heard of SportHill clothing. On a gamble I ordered the Ultimate Visibility II Zip Top. This morning was a good test. The windchill was 19 degrees with a strong wind. With just a light base layer underneath, this running top did the trick. I was comfortable and certainly did not feel the bite of the wind. I like the high rise collar. After the run, I was dry--good wicking. With all the reflective material on the design, I felt that I was lit up like a Christmas tree which is important since most of my running is done in the dark. It is a snug fit. The material is soft to the touch. This is the best cold weather gear I've worn. Just wanted to share. Getting geeked up about running in the frigid weather. It's only going to get worse--weather conditions-- from here!

probably about 9 tonight with a workout
3 x 600 (400 splits around 65-67)
2 x 400 (67-68)
2 x 200 (31-32)
Felt pretty winded. I could definitely feel the past two days in my legs.
Now going to rest up until my final 5 k of the season saturday.
