6 miles. Got pins and needles in my toes towards the end though, do running socks help with that or is it just a newbie thing?

I've been completely drained since my run yesterday.

At what distance do you guys start carrying something other than water?

Anything over 8 miles and I'm reaching for the gel.

That said, I don't run distances between 8 and 12 miles. Weekday runs are 8 miles or less, and 12+ miles is more of a weekend thing, unless I have to shuffle things a bit.

If you're drained but not dehydrated: consider your salt intake. Usually after a long run the salt gets depleted and that's the last thing people think about post-run. After some long runs it takes big handfuls of chex mix to get me back to reality.

I would call that worrisome. Does this happen with a particular shoe, or is it all shoes? And does this only crop up over longer distances? I doubt socks would change this, but I could be wrong.

Just this evening, I might have tied my shoelace too tight, I'll see what its like after my next run. What do sports socks actually do?

I think I may have been a bit dehydrated immediately after the run, but drank water liberally from that point on. I only stopped dragging about two hours ago. I either need to carry more water or find a place to refill, and I think I'll be bringing the blox with me next time, too. Thanks!

Synthetics rule the day for runners - running socks will blow your mind if you've been using cotton ones. Also look into body glide.

Re carrying stuff other than water I take Gatorade if it's over 75 degrees and I'm
Running longer than 10. Dehydration blows. I do recommend getting familiar
With eating something on the run for anyone training for longer distance races because you wan
T to avoid discomfort on race day and you need that extra fuel for a marathon.

I hate gu and all that though so I only use it a couple of times during a build up.

15 for me last night w/ miles 10-14 at 6:20/6:13/6:10/6:08. I'm getting back into shape finally.

3 at a faster than normal pace this morning because I awoke late and didn't have time for more.

Got in 8.1 miles in 1:00:34 while down in New Orleans over the weekend. Great way to see the city in the morning
Ran stairs last night for the last time before the ESB run up, feeling pretty good, we'll see if I can break my PR of 14:43

As for feuling, I've been trying to cut back on my gu fueling on long truns of late, in part to see how my body adapts, and in part I think cuss I'm running in winter. In my last 2 20+ mile runs, I had a honey stinger waffle pre run or a vespa power pouch. Then ran with concentrated accelerade, take an enduralyte every hour on the hour, refilled my water bottle (20 oz) at the 10 mile mark, had maybe 1 gu and felt good at the end.

Part of the reason for me trying new things is I don't mind gu's for the first half dozen or so, but considering on an ulra youre supposed to have one ever 30 minutes, that would mean consuming around 48 for a 100 mile run at 24 hour pace. The thought alone makes my stomach turn.

Well, the thin ones are nice for humid / rainy days: they hold much less water than cotton/thicker ones. I seldom wear them, but for summer long runs they are essential. I've had to wring my socks out a few times mid-run, and it's just an exercise in futility because a few miles later you're squishing your way along again.

been there, found a few spots in the old neighborhood where I could pull aside and let it out if the need arose.

    ...

today, track workout 6 x 800, 200 recovery. averaged about 3:20, even when hanging on. Oddly enough I tweaked my form a bit when I was in distress and was able to keep pace through the rest of the intervals.

8 miles as the legs and tips of my toes recover from Sunday's half marathon.
I only use SHOT during a marathon, at 10mi, 15mi, and 20mi marks.

Sir Humphrey--Looser lacing may help with tingling toes. You might also see if a different model shoe, different socks (e.g., thinner), or different running surfaces make a difference.
