This a.m., 5 miles. Listened to Mahler's 2nd Symphony. Wanted to run 5 more. Pea soup fog. I need windshield wipers on my glasses.

Sounds like a filming project for PBS "Nature".

Yeah, I think they were voles....all over the place, just dead.
    The Herons were awesome.

I guess I am back, I feel fine today and will likely hit a speed workout this evening.

Hope you get back soon Sam!

Also, I sometimes run to classical, but its usually Bartok or Shostakovitch or Bach Sonotas/Partitias or some string quartets. But Mahler? WOW, Ill have to try that.

Man, 1:30 would be an epic PR for me. I don't know why, but things go a bit haywire on race day and I never, ever, do as well as I think I should. My PR is 1:42, and that day I had a head cold. I was hanging on at the end but turned 1:42 for the last lap and still ran home after, so I still had something in the tank.

Good luck for a speedy recovery!

I never, run to classical, which I might have to remedy. I don't get Mahler in general, but I do like the 2nd.

Okay, I can see Shotakovich 5th or 10th, maybe the 4th. 24th prelude and fugue. But now that I think of it, I would pick Tchaikovsky (4th Sym) and maybe Prokofiev.

Interesting realization: I have to meditate on a major run the day before, or I struggle to complete it. Also, my successful long runs have started with a podcast, not the normal music. Mental slight-of-hand? Probably.

Today: was going to run an hour, then dialed it back, then dialed it back more, 4 miles, 35 minutes. It was awfully humid and a bit warm out there, and I tanked after about 3 miles. ah well.

Sam--You've been off for a brief period but you'll get back into shape soon. Lots of time between now and Patriot's Day, especially in primo Newport Beach training conditions.

Six miles in 43 degrees and driving rain this morning. Only time I wear earbuds is when I'm rowing for 10 minutes during Y strength sessions and I prefer to hear jazz or news on NPR instead of my huffing and puffing.:violin:

I really enjoy listening to classical, but I can't run to it. I did once, and found myself switching to a different playlist shortly into the run.

When I started running, it was on the dreadmill, so I needed something to distract me from the boredom. Once I started running outside, I found that I didn't need the distraction, and the only headphones that would stay put were the "in-ear" type. Then I didn't feel safe running in the city with a key sense essentially disabled. That said, metal and upbeat pop were my preference.

Those exotic Mahler chords make me want to jump out of my skin. It accelerates my pace. Last week, I listened to the Berlioz Requiem. Sixteen tympani!

ran for exactly one hour tonight, covered 9.4 miles. mid 50s, and was lightly raining off and on through the run, which felt great. Had to dodge alot of puddles on the sidewalks because it had rained really hard earlier in the day.

^ I love running in that kind of weather.

Been sick for over a week and finally got out for 3 miles. A little out of breath, but felt good to move.

^^hahahahahah Katy Perry. (I have three KP songs in the rotation).

after yesterday's abortive tankfest, I was out for vengeance today, but also had a ton of shirts to iron in the morning. Ended up running 7 miles in 52 minutes, for a total (since Sunday) of 44 miles. And I'm not getting tired.

skipped yesterday. Kiddie is sick today, so I have to dread mill. I think Ill go for 1.5 hrs or so and zone out.
Since we are on the subject here are some common bands I listen to while running:
    Son Volt
Bolt Thrower (usually only after 15 miles when I am bonked and need something like this to kick me back in gear)
    Band Of Horses
    The Budos Band
    radiohead
Bartok-Miraculous Mandarin Suite, solo violin sonata
    Tons of Arvo Part
    Wilco-shuffle all albums
    Deerhoof
