. I'm in my 9th week and still haven't had that breakthrough where I really enjoy myself during a run.

Try running at different times in the day. You might find that your body works better at a particular time. For me, early morning is best. I hate running in the afternoon. Find a running buddy. Join a local running club. Nearly every good running shoe store has a running group. I find that my best runs occur on days when I don't feel like running. Running clears my mind; it creates a mindset for the entire day. If you have gone 9 weeks, you're hooked!

5.75 miles. I started stretching more before and after runs and it's helped tremendously with some of the aches and pains.

Weird question - do you breathe through your mouth or nose while running? I always breathe only through my nose but wonder if I'm getting enough oxygen.

^ I breathe through my nose if I am running below a certain intensity, but once I get going a little harder (just faster than marathon pace) all bets are off, and I kind of try to stay relaxed breathing through both nose and mouth.

10.5 today - 1 mile up (7:45) 1 mile a little slower than marathon pace (6:40) then tempo of 6 miles at 15 k pace (5:59 avg) 2 miles down (8 min pace). Awesome/tough/fun workout all on soft park paths/trails. My ankle is Feeling much better after a rest day yesterday

5.5 miles today in the rain, my first 5+ mile run in months. Didn't time, but I'd estimate 8:30-8:45 minute mile pace. I really should start timing myself, which brings up the question...

Has anyone tried out the Garmin Forerunner 610 gps yet? I had the garmin 205 and it was great for a while, but slowly became an incredible pain ********** as it started to experience troubles with charging, picking up gps satellite signals, and battery life.

I haven't tried the 610 - I use the 110 and it is pretty much all you need. I used a 405 for a while and the touch screen bezel drove me f*cking nuts, and I know the 610 also has a touch screen, but from reviews it is much more streamlined. I would recommend the 110 to anybody (even ryan hall uses it). 10 today easy (7:25 pace). *** Dcg - I think that breakthrough will come for you if you stick with it - especially if you run on some scenic trails - or push yourself hard enough that you feel like you just smoked a fat pound of grass . . . . after my first half marathon I was truly hooked.

there was something about the 110 that made me stay away.. it doesnt have instantaneous pace or average pace or something, cant remember what exactly now. I heard some complaints from friends about the touch screen bezel thing... i remember running with a buddy during the winter and his garmin kept beeping because his glove or jacket screen was touching the bezel and i guess making it change screens or something.

Ran 4.5 yesterday, felt good. ran 7.25 today, all with the broken toe...don't worry, no toe pics. Just these, on a cool grey day in the borough:

Didn't get water til mile mile 17, then I slowed down. I was happy with the effort - I knew that I didn't have much fuel in the tank and that it was going to be a little bit hairy on the last 10 miles (straight into a 15 mph-ish headwind.
73 for the week with 6 days of running.

Got in some descent runs over the weekend, highlighted by the Brooklyn Half Marathon. Ran 1:22:35 and felt like I still had some gas left in the tank, so I went back out and ran another 15.8 miles in the afternoon in 2:14:43. Ran a quick 5 miles over the Queensboro Bridge on Friday in 32:15 and ran 3.3 miles this morning along the east river in 23:.02.

Antirabbit, clarinetplayer, and sam, thanks for the support! My right knee and hip were giving me some issues so I passed on Saturday's run, but am looking forward to tonight's. We'll see how it goes.

One thing I can say is that I'm starting to notice things that annoy me about my shoes. Specifically, I wish they has less of a heel on them.
