8 miles total this morning with a bunch of it at the track:

5x 100m
5x 200m
5x 100m
5x 200m

I managed 18 seconds for my best 100m and 36 seconds for my best 200m... looks like I've got a lot of work to do to catch up to Noah!

The weather report said it was threatening rain this morning but the radar made it look like it would like the small rainstorm would pass just to the south of me. Nope. The skies opened up just as I was getting to the track and then cleared up and the sun came out literally as I pressed the button on my watch to finish the workout portion of my run. So at least I had the mile+ run home in clear weather with sunshine. My shorts even almost dried out before I got back... I cannot say the same for my shoes though.

Jakob ran three miles over the last several days. Sadly, the last of the three he saw three runners pass him in the final 50m.

I ran 5 miles yesterday in some very warm conditions. I've been neglecting to get going first thing in the morning and the nasty heat that saps my legs before I finish warmups is my reward.

9 "miles" yesterday evening:

Plus: 30-minute strength workout. It's been a while, and I am sore this morning.

I can't believe Jakob Ingebrigsten didn't win the gold in the 1500

I watched it last night and that was crazy. Even though I have been a runner for a few decades now, I never really cared about watching others run until the past few years. The 100m and 200m races are nice because they're over in just a few seconds but the runs of 800m and above are where the drama is at!

FWIW, about a decade ago I was in a small, local 10k on a relatively hilly course and running pretty good and was confident that my time of around 38 minutes was going to be the top finisher. As I was about 1500m from the finish, I could see some guy round a corner ahead of me on an out-and-back segment and hit the final stretch towards the finish line. He was so far ahead of me that I figured he must have been running the 5k. Afterwards, checking the results, I saw it was some younger guy running the 10k and he finished with a time just under 30 minutes. I remembered looking him up afterwards and saw he was some high school kid who was showing up as one of the best high school runners in the state and from Grand Blanc - a town about 40 miles north of me. When Grant Fisher won got the bronze in the men's 10,000m last weekend and I learned he was from Grand Blanc, Michigan I had to go back and check the race results to see if it was him who beat me. (Unfortunately?) It was not, but it would have been sort of cool to be able to say I cam in 2nd to a future Olympic medalist!

Must be something in the water in the Grand Blanc area that's making them run faster up there!

I think Jakob's problem is he's a time trialer and not a racer. He's not very good tactically so when it comes to championship finals he gets beat. All that matters in World Championships and Olympics is winning the gold medal. Setting a new record is nice but winning is way more important. Until he improves his race strategy, he's going to continue to struggle in the 1500.

I'm pretty sure it's just EPO in the water in Grand Blanc.

Grand Blanc is a suburb of Flint so I guess there could definitely be worse things in the water!

Around here, the school that produces consistently good runners is Niwot HS.

The obvious reason is that that town is very affluent, and draws a lot of top athletes to settle down. There are also great trails around the school.

17.3 miles of gravel on the cx bike this morning, after swapping out the chain. That certainly made a difference, though I need to replace the cassette as well.

9 miles this morning with a bunch of 800m repeats and some sideline-to-sideline sprints on the infield at the track.
